The Coast Mountains, stretching along British Columbia's western edge, from the Alaska Panhandle to Vancouver, are the most mysterious and remote in western Canada. Inaccessible by car, and featuring some of the highest peaks in BC, the mountains begin as low forested hills whose dark green slopes rise up from the sea. Inland at the heads of long fiords, sharper summits reach above treeline.
